Anna and the September Issue
1/21/2009 07:49:00 AM Posted by Christina
So, everyone is buzzing about the most anticipated film at the Sundance Film Festival, The September Issue following the life of Vogue during the development of its 2007 issue, and its ambassador, Miss Anna Wintour. Who wouldn't want an inside look at the most sought-after fashion magazine (possibly the most sought-after magazine, period?)The documentary, birthed by R.J. Cutler (who produced award-winning docs, The War Room and A Perfect Candidate, was oversold, packed to capacity and was only available for a total of 6 screenings. Word is, the film will air on A&E, (woo hoo!) but the date of the premier has not yet been set.
“This is very much R.J.’s film. I want to make it very clear that he had complete freedom to put together the movie that he wanted and it’s not in any way Vogue behind him telling him what he can and cannot do,” said Anna. Of course we know whose film it really is.

According to WWD, Anna showed up the premier, dressed in "a leather Michael Kors jacket with a fox collar, an Oscar de la Renta turtleneck, J Brand jeans and Manolo Blahnik boots, said she was 'channeling mountain casual. It is actually my first time wearing jeans to work.'"
Am I the only one who can't sit still?!

CFDA Awards Winners + Event Photos

Purple Glamour's favorite designer, Alexander Wang walked away with the well-deserved Swarovski Award for Womenswear."I went to work, had a couple of meetings, ate Thai food," he told WWD about his day before the awards ceremony. "I just want to hang out with my friends."
Congrats Mr. Wang!
Laura and Kate Mulleavy snagged the prestigious Womenswear Designer of the Year Award for Rodarte.
Well done! Since their Fashion Week debut in 2005, their collections have been receiving rave reviews and much success.
And I must say, I fell in love with those web-like knitted leggings from their Fall '08 collection.

And the Menswear Designer of the Year award went to...both Scott Sternberg of Band of Outsiders and Italo Zuccheli for his work with Calvin Klein (it was a tie.)
I personally would have given it to Scott Sternberg, because he's just that good, and I can't get enough of his effortless, preppy, American Sportswear designs.
Anyway, congrats to them both!

The Swarovski Award for Menswear went to Tim Hamilton...

And the International Award went to Marc Jacobs for his efforts at Louis Vuitton--rightfully so.
I don't think anyone else could have done a better job. The Fall '09 collection will forever be in my mind and heart.
Check out the rest of the awards and their recipients here.

"Exploring the reciprocal relationship between high fashion and evolving ideals of beauty, The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion focuses on iconic models of the twentieth century and their roles in projecting, and sometimes inspiring, the fashion of their respective eras. The exhibition, organized by historical period from 1947 to 1997, will feature haute couture and ready-to-wear masterworks accompanied by fashion photography and video footage of models who epitomized their epochs."

Off Fit: Parisian Style
4/23/2009 09:41:00 AM Posted by Christina
This Off Fit is inspired by European style--specifically, Paris. Through research, I found that Parisian style embodies youthful modernity, with a touch of edge and effortlessness. There is a debate on whether Paris is the fashion capital of the world, compared to NYC. However, a lot of NYC's fashion influence is inspired by Parisian style (think gladiators, tights with shorts, fur coats as a winter staple, boots with almost everything, etc.)
Neutral-colored wardrobes are ubiquitous there, with a pop of color here and there. Carine Roitfeld is the epitome of Parisian style to the epitome of NY's Anna Wintour.

NY Premiere of "September Issue"
8/20/2009 09:45:00 AM Posted by Christina
Celebrites and designers alike, gathered at the MoMa for the premiere of September Issue...
Vera Wang looked effortlessly chic in a grey tank, black tiered skirt and statement accessories. Love her style.
Tory Burch looked colorfully elegant in a purple jewel-toned frock and black gladiators. The pink fringy bag...eh.
Rachel Roy looked absolutely stunning in an all neutral look with a statement gold-link necklace. She always looks classic and fabulous!
Jessica White took a chance with this gold jewel-tone strapless frock and contrasting pink-and-white wrap sandals.
Jewel-toned frocks must have been the rule of thumb for the evening. Cynthia Rowley graced the showing in this poufy-sleeved blue jewel-toned dress, with simple yet edgy accessories. I would definitely rock this look.
Chanel Iman looked fresh, flirty and gorgeous in this white strapless dress and metallic accesories. Love it.
I am loving Cassie's fashion choices lately. She showed up in an edgy black pants jumpsuit, black booties and hot pink nails. She is wearing the all black look quite well.
Alexa Chung looked fab in this off-white sheer number and contrasting black booties and a pop of color with a blue clutch. Simply chic.
And Miss Anna Wintour made an appearance in her usual age-apropriate, yet effortlessly stylish frock and neutral accessories.

Diddy, Cassie and Zac Posen looked hot at the after party!
Just so you know, the premiere for regular viewers is September 11th. If you're a New Yorker, the documentary will begin showing August 28th. Can't wait!
