Vera Wang for David's Bridal

Pleas excuse me--I'm still coming off my wedding high (hubby and I just got our full-length wedding dvd back and watched it twice last night!) David's Bridal has not been on the top of the list of wedding dress retailers lately. I know when I was shopping for a dress, that was the last place on my mind. However, next year, Vera Wang, the premier wedding dress designer, is partnering with David's Bridal to create a bridal dress line. The collection will be comprised of dresses ranging from $600-$1500. Although I am normally a little skeptical about collaborations between top designers and mainstream retailers (ie. Designer Collaborations for Target) I think this one will pan out great. I can't wait to see the collection, which will soon thereafter produce bridesmaid and children's wedding attire line.I think it is a great idea for both parties--David's Bridal can possibly change the minds and hearts of brides to be, and Vera Wang can reach out to a new demographic who may not have been able to afford an original designer gown. It's brilliant.

"Exploring the reciprocal relationship between high fashion and evolving ideals of beauty, The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion focuses on iconic models of the twentieth century and their roles in projecting, and sometimes inspiring, the fashion of their respective eras. The exhibition, organized by historical period from 1947 to 1997, will feature haute couture and ready-to-wear masterworks accompanied by fashion photography and video footage of models who epitomized their epochs."

Vera Wang Says No to Bryant Park This Spring

Well, it seems Vera Wang has decided to bow out gracefully. Instead of showing at the tents for the Fall '09 Collections at NY Fashion Week, she has chosen a more intimate setting, at her store on Mercer St."The intimacy of a smaller show feels much more appropriate for these times. I say that as a business owner, as a designer and as a person.”
And it seems Betsey Johnson has also jumped on the bandwagon. Her guest list is usually 1,000 names long.
I must say I'm not surprised that some designers are tightening their belts. It's a smart move, although we are a bit disappointed that we won't get to see their fabulous designs first hand (unless of course we're one of the 100-200 people on the guest list.)
To each his own.

A wide range of preppy and sophisticated to edgy and daring, the ones I chose proved unique creativity yet practical wearability. I would totally wear the Alexander Wang loafer wedges by day and the sea creature Proenza Schoulers by night. Which are your favorites?

Purple Glamour's favorite designer, Alexander Wang walked away with the well-deserved Swarovski Award for Womenswear."I went to work, had a couple of meetings, ate Thai food," he told WWD about his day before the awards ceremony. "I just want to hang out with my friends."
Congrats Mr. Wang!
Laura and Kate Mulleavy snagged the prestigious Womenswear Designer of the Year Award for Rodarte.
Well done! Since their Fashion Week debut in 2005, their collections have been receiving rave reviews and much success.
And I must say, I fell in love with those web-like knitted leggings from their Fall '08 collection.

And the Menswear Designer of the Year award went to...both Scott Sternberg of Band of Outsiders and Italo Zuccheli for his work with Calvin Klein (it was a tie.)
I personally would have given it to Scott Sternberg, because he's just that good, and I can't get enough of his effortless, preppy, American Sportswear designs.
Anyway, congrats to them both!

The Swarovski Award for Menswear went to Tim Hamilton...

And the International Award went to Marc Jacobs for his efforts at Louis Vuitton--rightfully so.
I don't think anyone else could have done a better job. The Fall '09 collection will forever be in my mind and heart.
Check out the rest of the awards and their recipients here.
