Will You Wear White After Labor Day?

9/03/2009 11:12:00 AM Posted by Christina

So, everyone knows wearing white after Labor Day is a no-no. Or is it?

Lately, fashion has been throwing out the idea of tucking all of your white pieces (except tops, of course) away until spring. I, for one, am not a fan of white shoes, or white pants, for that matter. However, if done right, white can work after Labor Day. And expect to see it a lot this fall.

The fall '09 runways enforced the white piece dress code from...

...white, knee-length skirts, and knee-high boots...

...tailored white blazers paired with loose-fitted black bottoms...

...and a flirty, white dress with black accents...

Try it if you dare!

Christina's Fashion Week Wish List

8/27/2009 11:04:00 AM Posted by Christina

Hey! So, I am super excited about my trip to NY next month for Fashion Week! This will be the first time I will be there during the event, so I can't wait to be in the mix.

Other than booking my travel time, knowing what to pack is the most challenging. Since I lived in NY for a short period of time, I know what I will need to bring.

So I have compiled a list of ideas of what I plan to wear. Your feedback and suggestions are welcomed!

Topshop at ShopStyle

Style Tips:
1. Since I will be trotting the streets of NYC, I must have comfortable shoes. Since, I live in heels, wedges or a thick heel are perfect for balance and comfort. Lace-up booties are all the rage and of the moment this season!
2. I am not a huge accessories fan--the right bracelet or arm candy is just enough to make even the simplest outfit pop. So, I will need some statement, edgy bracelets in bright colors and metallic accents. I have been craving a neon watch for ages!
3. Flats are inevitable. Especially since I will be traveling, I still want to be comfortably chic. Gladiator flats are here to stay, and animal prints are back with a vengence.
4. You can never go wrong with black. A little black dress in an asymmetric shape or at a thigh-grazing length will show off my peep-toe booties and edgy accessories! A plan to wear my leather pencil skirt to an event too : )
5. Although I thought leggings were played out, I was so wrong. They are one of the strongest recurring trends, and are reinvented in tribal prints and slashed textures.
6. The spring shows were bombarded with cropped tops. They are perfect with high-waisted bottoms and glam'd up with androgynous accessories.
7. Denim is taking the fashion world by storm. A denim vest and white ripped skinnies is the perfect combination!

Purple Glamour Style Guide: How to Make Your Legs Look Longer

8/24/2009 11:56:00 AM Posted by Christina

Because I am a graceful 5 feet 3 inches, it is difficult to find looks that will help me appear longer and leaner. So, I did some research and found 5 helpful tips and tricks on how to make your legs look longer in looks that are typically made for a 6-foot, 100-pound model.

Tip #1. Don't be afraid to show some leg.

The more leg you show, the longer your legs will appear to be. Whether it's form-fitting or baggy, in a dress or skirt, the above-the-knee look (especially paired with heels) will give you a longer, leaner appearance.

Try these:

Tip #2. Skinny jeans in a dark wash will give you a slim look, and are perfect with a loose-fit top or blazer.

Dress your dark wash skinny jeans with a simple white tee and animal print pumps, or a dress them up with a glitzy top and studded platform booties. Either way, you can't lose.

Try these:

Tip #3: Belt your frock to give you balance and accentuate your lower (and better might I add) half.

This can also help if you have a short torso (as I do) and draws more attention to your waist, hips, legs and fabulous footwear!

Try these:

Or just grab your favorite belt and wrap it around your favorite sundress!

Tip #4. Create an outift in one color (preferrably a neutral color.)

The rule of thumb (especially in the fashion industry) is that all black always works. I beg to differ. You can wear a whole outfit in one color in neutrals (navy blue, black, khaki green, tan, etc.) It gives off a uniformed look, and draws the eye up and down to give you a taller, leaner appearance. Since jumpsuits are a huge trend this season, this is an effortless way to achieve the look.

Avoid bright colors in this case. Black makes you look smaller, brights make you look larger.

Try these:

Tip #5. A nude shoe always does the trick.

If you don't want to put as much effort into making your legs look longer and leaner, a nude or flesh-toned shoe gives your legs an elongated appearance.

Try these:

That's all for now! Let me know how it works : )

PS. Thanks to Scientific Housewife for the sound style advice on the Steve Madden booties!

Gilt Fuse Fashion News: Kelsi Dagger

8/13/2009 01:38:00 PM Posted by Christina

So, I told you about Gilt Groupe's sister site Gilt Fuse's new launch. Well, I love it, and not only because the coveted pieces are in my price range, but that they are introducing new or unknown designers to the forefront. Take, for example, Kelsi Dagger...

I am love with these two pair. They are trendy and affordable, and they look like a million bucks. I love that you can get quality for less than $75!

And since I love the brand so much, I decided to do my own research. The brand targets the junior's shoe market whose name derived from a fictional English literary Show Girl/Femme Fatal. And that's just what the designs are--feminine and glamourous, yet edgy and whimsical.

Kelsi Dagger is all over the US & Canada, with stores mostly in New York and California (there are a few in Florida too!)

Check out the rest of the fabulous shoe collection and store locations at kelsidagger.com. I promise you won't be disappointed.
