Vera Wang for David's Bridal
5/07/2010 10:36:00 AM Posted by Christina
Pleas excuse me--I'm still coming off my wedding high (hubby and I just got our full-length wedding dvd back and watched it twice last night!) David's Bridal has not been on the top of the list of wedding dress retailers lately. I know when I was shopping for a dress, that was the last place on my mind. However, next year, Vera Wang, the premier wedding dress designer, is partnering with David's Bridal to create a bridal dress line. The collection will be comprised of dresses ranging from $600-$1500. Although I am normally a little skeptical about collaborations between top designers and mainstream retailers (ie. Designer Collaborations for Target) I think this one will pan out great. I can't wait to see the collection, which will soon thereafter produce bridesmaid and children's wedding attire line.I think it is a great idea for both parties--David's Bridal can possibly change the minds and hearts of brides to be, and Vera Wang can reach out to a new demographic who may not have been able to afford an original designer gown. It's brilliant.

Wedding Fab: Douglas Hannant
11/13/2009 05:53:00 PM Posted by Christina
I am so excited to tell you that I am getting married! My fiancé proposed to me a week ago at the restaurant where we had our first date a year ago in front of our family and close friends. It was so sweet, I was speechless!
So, I am going to be in full wedding mode for the next six months--we have decided to have a spring wedding, so we will be getting married in April!
Anyway, I am on the search for the perfect dress, and I found a designer who just takes my breath away--Douglas Hannant. He is a New York designer who creates the most beautiful bridal gowns--they are ultra-feminine and undeniably unique.
Take a look at his fab fall '09 collection...

Have you ever seen anything so beautiful? We are having a day wedding, so I am looking for something a little less formal, but equally glamorous. What do you think? I love the soft, floating textures and frilly silhouettes.
I'm off to a great start, right? : )

Jean Paul Gaultier Next in Line for Target
10/23/2009 09:14:00 AM Posted by Christina
WWD reports that French designer, Jean Paul Gaultier will produce the next capsule collection with Target's Designer Collaborations. The collection will launch March 7 (probably in NY first) through April 11th.
Gaultier is known for his risque pieces and daring silhouettes. Jourdan Dunn was spotted on his spring '10 runway sporting her baby bump in a chic way.
The spring '10 collection was undeniably fab, by the way. The wide range of military chic mixed with urban denim fab, and an ethnic motif, embodied this season's collection with a neutral color palette of various textures.
I am totally looking forward to this capsule collection with Target. And you know there will be a preview of the pieces before they hit stores, so stay tuned. When they pop up, you will be the first to know!

Fashion Week Spring '10: Elise Overland
9/30/2009 01:31:00 AM Posted by Christina
So I rushed over to Elise Overland, right after Erin Fetherston's. Thankfully, the show hadn't started yet, as the shows don't start on time.
I managed to snag another seat closer to the top of the runway, but I couldn't get a good view of the clothes.
I was surprised to see a lot of leather pieces, in shorts, dresses and skirts, and a few metallic pieces in various colors. This collection had more of a autumn/winter feel, with lots of black and metallics. There were a few dresses with busy prints. The collection was fab nonetheless...
I searched for the tribal-inspired pieces that I hinted at here and there it was...

Fashion Week Spring '10: Erin Fetherston

I had a standing room ticket, but there were a few empty seats just before the show began, so I grabbed one with a decent view.
P.S. I spotted Ms. Lanphear at this show too, but I left her alone this time : )
And the show began...

The collection embodied flowy, flirty silhouettes in busy prints and soft textures. Classic vintage was the theme, with lace gloves, statement hats and ultra feminine silhouettes. Loved it!

Inspired By: Marc Jacobs
9/29/2009 02:47:00 PM Posted by Christina

"Stunners", ($295) Although the temperatures may begin to drop, you will still need some chic sunnies to protect your eyes. Simple black shades with unexpected accents will give you just the bit of edge that you need.
"From Day to Night", (1,174.53) Trick or treat! This orange sequined polo is the perfect statement piece for fall with contrasting sleeves and casual features. This top is adorable--perfect with a pair of slim fit trousers or the right jeans.
"Arm Candy", ($78) The right arm candy will set off any outfit, from simple to complex. This simple cuff with a gold fasten, will work for day or night.
"Girly Top", ($450) Even the most androgynous dressers have a sweet, girly top to soften their wardrobe. And this satin top is just right.
"Strong Shoulders", ($895) I'm a firm believer in being a leader, not a follower, but this trendy, strong-shouldered top is my latest obsession. I love the chic, sporty feel--the perfect contrast with a flirty skirt.
"Reinvented LBD", ($1,900) The little black dress is reinvented in velvet. Marc Jacobs sure knows how to raise the bar! Keep it elegant and chic with this sharp, season-friendly frock.
"Statement Sweater", ($1,381) Every girl needs a statement sweater for fall. Every girl. You won't need it all the time, and you shouldn't. But it works, and it should stand out from the rest.
"Tulip Shorts", ($222) These shorts are too cool for school. Skirts and dresses aren't the only ones getting the tulip silhouette for fall. These tulip shorts are simultaneously girly and edgy. Pair these with a boyfriend blazer and fitted top, or a statement sweater, tights and those awesome booties you've been dying to wear.

Inspired by: Rachel Roy
_____________________________________________
So, I've created a new feature, "Inspired by:" which will feature pieces that are inspired by a runway look. Today's feature is from Rachel Roy's spring 2010 collection. I love that she wasn't afraid to mix neon colors (a la Matthew Williamson) in chic, ultra-feminine silhouettes. The entire collection was a myriad of wrap skirts, and a mixture of bright and neutral colors. She kept it simple with mostly solid colors, in plunging necklines and various textures. Satin was the collection's staple, in unconventional colors. Shop the inspiration pieces below:
1. Blazer, Rodebjer Craner, $205
2.Dress. Sara Berman, $354.75
3. Skirt, Arden B., $38
4. Dress, See by Chloe, $395
5. Skirt, Alloy, $29.90
6. Jacket, VINCE, $147.50

Fashion Week Spring '10: Tracy Reese
9/28/2009 09:50:00 AM Posted by Christina
My style consists mostly of girly with a rocker edge--the epitome of the Tracy Reese spring '10 collection. The ideal look for me from this line would be the photo at left: an artsy bubble hem skirt with a leathery tank and strappy sandals. This collection was full of fruity colors and busy prints.
I have been avoiding mixing prints like the plague, but Tracy Reese has done it so well, I am almost compelled to change my mind. I said almost.
Tracy Reese jumps on the watercolor bandwagon, with the breathtaking floor-length gown and the mini dress wrapped in black toule fabric.
This colelction pays attention to the waist, with cinched silhouettes.
What I love most about the Tracy Reese label is the impeccable attentio to detail and effortless wearability. I am a firm believer in wearing quality clothes that don't look like you paid way too much for them.
p>More photos after the jump.
