Publication Frenzy

So, the NY Times and WWD have reported that Time Inc. and Conde Nast are doing cutbacks and layoffs. Time Inc. is planning to reclaim over 600 jobs for restructuring.

Obviously, this issue hit home. So, what will this restructure mean for those who are entering the work force, specifically the fashion industry? Unemployment has reached an all time high, and competition is fierce for fear of getting laid off, or not being able to find a job, particularly in one's field.

It has forced me to reevaluate my career aspirations, although I have not given up on my dreams. How will these drastic changes being made by major powerhouses like Time Inc. and Conde Nast affect the media, specifically in fashion? My guess is that they will turn to the Web, with more emphasis on displaying more content to save money.

Thoughts?
