Fashion Week Spring '10: Balmain

10/11/2009 08:30:00 PM Posted by Christina

Balmain marched into place adorned in Greek military chic gear. The collection, chock full of metallic frocks, more strong shoulders, and tough girl accessories.

Each piece demands attention, from the captain-esque shoulders, braided belts and worn-in t-shirts.

Cutouts were prevalent in dresses, offering a mysterious peak at the womanly figure in staggering lengths, bearing more than usual.

The mostly leggy collection was paired with heeled combat boots--ready for a fashion war.

The collection was fully equipped with looks for both day and night.

Balmain jumped on the pantsless bandwagon with a metallic bodysuit, mirroring a loin cloth.

The color palette embodied neutrals and metallics in various textures.

Fashion Week Spring '10: Elise Overland

9/30/2009 01:31:00 AM Posted by Christina

So I rushed over to Elise Overland, right after Erin Fetherston's. Thankfully, the show hadn't started yet, as the shows don't start on time.

I managed to snag another seat closer to the top of the runway, but I couldn't get a good view of the clothes.

I was surprised to see a lot of leather pieces, in shorts, dresses and skirts, and a few metallic pieces in various colors. This collection had more of a autumn/winter feel, with lots of black and metallics. There were a few dresses with busy prints. The collection was fab nonetheless...

I searched for the tribal-inspired pieces that I hinted at here and there it was...

Here is the final walk...

Fashion Week Spring '10: Erin Fetherston

9/30/2009 01:25:00 AM Posted by Christina

So, I made it Erin Fetherston's show, at Milk Studios, a little early--which was about 5 minutes late. But they don't begin seating until 30 minutes after the show is supposed to begin, so I had plenty of time to wait.

I had a standing room ticket, but there were a few empty seats just before the show began, so I grabbed one with a decent view.

P.S. I spotted Ms. Lanphear at this show too, but I left her alone this time : )

And the show began...

The collection embodied flowy, flirty silhouettes in busy prints and soft textures. Classic vintage was the theme, with lace gloves, statement hats and ultra feminine silhouettes. Loved it!

Fashion Week Spring '10: Carlos Miele

9/30/2009 01:17:00 AM Posted by Christina

So, this was my first and only show at the tents, and it was quite fabulous. I also had an assigned seat, a great seat might I add, and saw some familiar faces. From Kate Winslet to Olivia Palermo from The City to one of my favorite fashion editors, Carine Roitfeld (she actually sat right in front of me!)

The show was amazing--a collection of ethnic prints, feminine sultry gowns and sophisticated silhouettes...

Miele played with various colors and textures, ranging from soft chiffon in watercolors, to black flapper dresses covered in shiny sequins. Loved it.

Here is the final walk...

That is all!

Fashion Week Spring '10: Tracy Reese

9/28/2009 09:50:00 AM Posted by Christina

My style consists mostly of girly with a rocker edge--the epitome of the Tracy Reese spring '10 collection. The ideal look for me from this line would be the photo at left: an artsy bubble hem skirt with a leathery tank and strappy sandals.

This collection was full of fruity colors and busy prints.

I have been avoiding mixing prints like the plague, but Tracy Reese has done it so well, I am almost compelled to change my mind. I said almost.

Tracy Reese jumps on the watercolor bandwagon, with the breathtaking floor-length gown and the mini dress wrapped in black toule fabric.

This colelction pays attention to the waist, with cinched silhouettes.

What I love most about the Tracy Reese label is the impeccable attentio to detail and effortless wearability. I am a firm believer in wearing quality clothes that don't look like you paid way too much for them.

The Best of Fashion Week: Footwear Part 1

9/27/2009 02:57:00 AM Posted by Christina

My main focus while viewing the collections during the Fashion Weeks is the entire look, however, I do not put much emphasis on the accessories. So, this time around, I peeped the footwear, and I found some edgy, breathtaking designs...
Alexander Wang (left) Derek Lam (right)

Marc Jacobs (left) Michael Kors (right)
Narcisco Rodriguez (left ) Phillip Lim 3.1 (right)

Proenza Schouler (left) Rag&Bone (right)

Rodarte (left) Thakoon (right)

Vera Wang

A wide range of preppy and sophisticated to edgy and daring, the ones I chose proved unique creativity yet practical wearability. I would totally wear the Alexander Wang loafer wedges by day and the sea creature Proenza Schoulers by night. Which are your favorites?

Fashion Week Spring '10: Matthew Williamson

9/22/2009 09:42:00 AM Posted by Christina

While I nurture my new found love for all that is the Matthew Williamson label, immerse yourself into the neon color palette of flowy silhouettes, weightless textures and solid, bold patterns...

Widely known for his dominating color scheme, and daring mix of illuminating colors, this season was no different...

Williamson also threw a few metallic pieces in for good measure, like the pale gold skirt suit, and paired them with vivid color.

I also spotted some pastels like green, pink, peach and blue...

And I can't get enough of the peep-toe booties and platform peep-toe heels, both adorned with a shin-baring bow...

Strong shoulders are here to stay in poufy structures...

This label certainly keeps me wanting more!

Fashion Week Spring '10: Rebecca Taylor

9/19/2009 08:54:00 AM Posted by Christina

Effortless ultra-feminine glamour is the epitome of the Rebecca Taylor spring collection. A neutral color palette with a pop of color, gave each look a whimsical edge.

From ruffled dresses to metallic shorts, this collection is a chic variation of florals, soft, pretty textures, and mixed prints. Almost every look had flowy accents, either paired with a tailored, more fitting separate, or a cropped contrast.

Accessories were minimal, with no jewelry and platforms packed with a lot punch. The shoes almost played down the look, with a simple, floral pattern and a casual appeal.
The more I stare at each look, the more I get a demure vintage vibe. And I love it.

I can totally see myself in this look to the left. The opaque-like shades, loose-fit, cropped, elbow-baring sweater, with the belted metallic shorts. I imagine I would wear this effortlessly glamorous look at an event where everyone was dressed up--with my hair slicked back, no earrings, and a killer clutch.

More photos after the jump.
